Fair Share Publishing is an independent children's picture book publisher based in New York City. Founded by Nathan Bond, FSP is built on the belief that publishing should be equitable, transparent, and creator-friendly. We publish children's books that inspire young minds, celebrate diverse voices, and subtly offer lessons — with humor and heart. All of our books are printed in the USA.
-
A few things set us apart. We offer authors and illustrators 50% royalties on net sales, which is significantly higher than the industry standard of 10–15%. We print all our books in the USA. We do not require agented submissions. We work closely with every creator we publish from manuscript to launch, and we believe in full transparency about contracts, rights, and compensation. We are not a vanity press — we never ask creators to contribute financially to their publishing project.
-
FSP was founded by Nathan Bond, a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and faculty member in the Illustration and Foundation Departments at Parsons School of Design for 17 years and counting. Nathan brings a background in illustration, art direction, and education to every book we publish.
-
All FSP books are printed in the USA. This is a deliberate commitment to domestic manufacturing quality and reducing our carbon footprint.
-
No. Fair Share Publishing is a traditional independent publisher. We select and fund the books we publish — authors and illustrators are never asked to pay for their publishing. We do offer separate consulting and production services for creators who want professional support on self-publishing projects, but that is entirely distinct from our traditional publishing program.
-
Yes. We welcome submissions directly from authors and illustrators without literary agent representation. We believe great stories come from everywhere, and we don't want the absence of an agent to be a barrier.
-
We are actively seeking children's picture books with fresh, emotionally grounded, socially aware, or humorous voices — stories with an authentic voice shaped by lived experience. We are also interested in visually driven middle grade manuscripts that lend themselves to strong visual storytelling. We do not currently accept board books or rhyming manuscripts.

We offer creators 50% of net sales — significantly higher than the industry standard, which typically ranges from 10% to 15% for authors at major publishers. We believe creators deserve a fair share of the value their work generates.
-
FSP is committed to transparent, creator-friendly contracts. Rights terms are discussed openly with every author and illustrator we work with. We encourage all creators to review contracts carefully and ask questions.

At this time, Fair Share Publishing ships within the United States and Canada. This is a deliberate choice that reflects our commitment to regional printing and distribution — all of our books are printed in the USA, and we limit shipping to the region where we print as part of our effort to reduce our carbon footprint. We hope to expand our reach in the future.
